Key Tips for Traveling with IBD:

  • Plan Ahead: Research your destination for IBD-friendly restaurants and accommodations with kitchen facilities. Packing non-perishable, easy-to-digest snacks can be a lifesaver if safe food options are scarce.

  • Stay Hydrated: Bring a refillable water bottle and consider electrolyte packets, especially when traveling in hot climates. Stick to bottled water abroad to avoid infections.

  • Communicate: Inform travel companions and restaurant staff about your needs. If traveling internationally, keep a translation card with key phrases about your dietary restrictions.

Read the full article  and learn how choosing safe foods, thoughtful preparation and managing stress, can make traveling with IBD both enjoyable and manageable. Bon voyage!

Nutrition in the New British Guidelines of IBD Management in Adults

The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) has just released an updated version of guidelines on IBD in adults that integrates nutrition:

✅ Nutrition matters for all patients who require abdominal surgery for IBD:

✅ An all-formula diet may help to decrease surgical complications in CD patients:

✅ Diet is central to managing low bone mineral density in IBD

✅ Poor nutrition and a recent travel abroad history should be screened for in patients with new onset or worsening of symptoms

✅ Probiotics are not suggested for patients with CD and UC

✅ Patient-centered dietary educational interventions offered shortly after diagnosis can have a positive impact.
